Everyday nutrition, without the fads

Sustainable eating is boring by design. The habits that hold up over decades are simpler than the ones that trend for a season.

An overhead spread of fresh vegetables and whole foods

Nutrition advice arrives in waves, each one confidently contradicting the last. Underneath the noise, the evidence has been remarkably stable for a long time, and it is far less demanding than the internet suggests.

Build the plate first

Half vegetables and fruit, a quarter protein, a quarter whole grains. This single habit handles fibre, micronutrients and satiety at once, without any counting.

Protein at every meal

Spreading protein across the day supports muscle maintenance better than concentrating it in one evening meal. Lentils, dairy, eggs, fish, poultry and soya all count.

Small changes that compound

  • Drink water before reaching for a snack — thirst is a frequent impostor.
  • Keep cut fruit visible and biscuits out of sight.
  • Cook one extra portion at dinner to defend tomorrow lunch.
  • Treat ultra-processed snacks as occasional, not as fuel.

What about supplements?

Supplements fill identified gaps; they do not replace a pattern of eating. Vitamin D and B12 deficiencies are common enough to be worth testing for, but blanket supplementation without a deficiency rarely earns its cost.

If you have a medical condition or take regular medication, check with your doctor before starting a supplement — interactions are more common than most labels imply.
